Fine Art Wedding Photography
& Custom Portraiture
My photography is a blend of fine- art styling and documentary reportage that aims to tell the complete story of your wedding day. From the tasteful details that you’ve spent months picking out, to your grandparents holding each other on the dance floor over the final notes of “At Last,” I’m there with camera in hand.
I draw from my background and formal training as a classical painter, editorial photographer, and commercial designer to capture your love story for generations to come.
As your Virginia wedding photographer, I want you to spend as much time as possible celebrating your joyful day with family and friends while we craft elegant, artistic images that will stand the tests of time (just like the two of you!)
I was lucky to grow up in an artistic family where I had a paintbrush and camera in hand almost before I could walk.
I completed a specialized degree in photography, painting, and design at The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and in 2007, I began my career as a photographer.
Fast forward a bit, and I fell head over heels in love with a cute British guy named David who swept me off my feet on the dance floor to the tune of a tango.
Love pulled me up to Virginia, where I further honed my photo ninja skills working as a journalist and as Art Director for the American Shakespeare Center. In 2012, I took a leap and went full time with Lauren D Rogers Photography.
I married that handsome man on a rainy fall day in 2014 at an historic Virginia estate with stone-covered ivy and dust in the corners. My dress was really, really poofy, and my beautiful bridesmaids wore gold sequins. Gold sequins are a weakness of mine.
I took another big step in 2015 and opened The Studio at Cary Street in the heart of the Richmond Fan District, fulfilling a lifelong dream of a dedicated space to create and share my art.
These days, I am living my happily ever after in Richmond, where we try to fill every room in our house with love, laughter, and many, many books.

I want you to have a giant canvas of a portrait on your dining room wall to show off just how good, and how happy, you look. And I want you to have a memory-filled album on your coffee table, full of the fleeting, emotional moments and the carefully currated details of the day — a family heirloom your children and grandchildren can treasure in the years to come. All of my wedding coverage is specifically tailored to fit your wedding day. You shouldn't have to choose between beautiful, timeless portraits and intimate candid coverage of your wedding day just to fit into a cookie-cutter package, and I won't make you!
I believe that the best stories are filled with interesting characters. I believe that art has value and that everyone should be obligated to bring more beauty to the world than ugliness. I believe that love is a great adventure and an act of courage. I believe that photographs are the an essential part of your legacy. I believe that digital images have their place but a leather album or a beautiful art print never go out of style. I believe that your wedding photos should be a mix of beautifully styled editorial details, epic portraits, and the quiet moments that live in between. My favorite emails begin with “This might sound crazy, but...”

I married a wonderful man who makes me happier than one person has any right to be. David is my steady rock and balancing point. And he can make me laugh until I can't breathe. Our love story reminds me every day why my job is so important.
According to Netflix, I like movies with "a strong female lead" and "sci-fi adventures with a quirky sidekick". I think they should also add a category for "really bad natural disaster films based on more-than-questionable science".
I'm a total bookworm and mentally recharge by curling up with a good novel. Recent favorites include the Outlander series, A Song of Ice and Fire, anything Neil Gaiman, and rereading all of Jane Austen. I am still waiting for my admissions letter to Hogwarts.
I binge watch British television shows while editing. Ten is my favorite Doctor, I could listen to Cumberbatch read the phonebook, and I take my fashion cues from Phryne Fisher.
I'm madly in love with Northern Italy. My vague retirement plan involves a medieval hilltop village, many olives and much wine.
I was a competitive ballroom dancer throughout college, and still can't keep my feet still when a good song comes on in the grocery store. I met my husband at a fancy-dress dance party. I asked him to tango, he asked me how to tango, and the rest is history.
In my household, days off are for "middle school field trips"; ie visiting the sorts of places long described as "learning opportunities." Museums are my happy place. In case you were wondering, VMFA also has some of the best coffee in Virginia.
I drink way too much Red Bull. Have yet to grow wings.
I'm from the mountains of North Carolina, near Asheville, and at heart will always choose the mountains over the beach for my perfect retreat.
I like to believe I can make or fix just about anything, and am an a very handy DIYer. Recent projects include restoring antique furniture, setting up a home letterpress studio, and hand making just about every element of my wedding. I get a lot of my inspiration by haunting local antique and vintage shops.
I will likely obsess over your gorgeous wedding shoes
and take far too many pictures of them. I love a beautiful pair of embellished shoes and even blinged my own wedding bridal heels out with Swarovski crystals. True confession though, I am barefoot 99% of the time.
I love thunderstorms and windy days, especially the electrically charged air of a summer evening before a storm rolls in.

"First of all, I just wanted to say how talented you are. When I see the photos you took (and it isn't even all of them at this point) the first thing that comes to my mind is not how good we looked (though we did look good) or how grateful we are (and we are very grateful), but how good you are at what you do. You have a gift. Life passes by and passes by and passes by and when you get married, as I'm sure you have heard to the point of cliche, time passes by even faster. Even so, a strange synchronicity develops where moments are suspended while they simultaneously speed on by. Somehow you managed to snatch these moments as they extended forth from the rapidly running wedding river and suspend them there forever on camera. That's a gift.
By accomplishing this, you have given us something truer than just a picture of an event that happened to us. Rather, you've given us the day as we emotionally remember it. That's my experience when I look at your photos. It's the day as I remembered and experienced it suspended there in front of me.
There's emotional truth behind your work as opposed to plain old snapshots. And when compared to the plain old snapshots that other guests took — the quality of your work shines — you are a professional and a craftswoman and what you do cannot be done by many."
— Christopher, groom
You were perfect for us! From day one, you were prompt with any correspondence. It was not easy planning a wedding from far away, and you were so helpful with any questions we had and suggestions.
From the moment you walked in, you were able to integrate with the group as if you were a member of the family, allowing you to get personal shots. I instantly felt comfortable with you. You were able to capture moments throughout the day that we would have otherwise not seen. The pictures you took were gorgeous and have allowed us to relive our wonderful day each time we look at them.
We have had so compliments not only on the pictures you took, but also with your performance at the wedding. We LOVED working with you!! There are no words for how overjoyed we have been each time you add more pictures to the sneak peek album!
— Julia, bride
Lauren was an absolute DREAM to work with! The photos she captures are something truly special. I keep looking at our pictures thinking they are from an editorial in a magazine...above and beyond our expectations.
Lauren is extremely reasonably priced for the quality of work she delivers and her professional demeanor and sweet personality is a bonus! Our friends and family could not stop talking about how pleasant she was leading up to and during our wedding.
We can't thank you enough, Lauren!
— Amanda, bride
There are so many wonderful things to say about Lauren. She is an absolutely fantastic photographer. Not only is she extremely talented, creative and fun, she is also very devoted to her clients. She is flexible and easy going. She is always very quick with responding to my emails and any request I had.
She was great to work with for our engagement photos and with our wedding photos. Not only did our photos come out just beautiful but we also had a blast taking them.
Great photographer, awesome personality and attitude-- we loved her! Lauren is so helpful and flexible with everything wedding related. We contacted her way WAY early in the planning process because photography was really important to us and as we waited to book our venue we would send her updates and she stuck with us as clients!
Her photos are creative, clean and beautiful and she's been very good about posting sneak peeks and letting us see a few photos as she edits. She is good at what she does and makes you feel comfortable and look beautiful even when you are sweating because it is 101° (our engagement session) or when your hair is getting out of control because the wind is blowing at 20mph (our wedding)!
— Brianne, bride
Lauren, you really did the most amazing job. You captured so much of what we wanted captured -- it was like you instinctively knew what would be most wonderful to remember. Thank you thank you thank you.
— Eleanor, bride
I am speechless and IN LOVE with every photo you took. I'm going to be sleep-deprived the rest of the night as I upload these as fast as Facebook will let me. ... All I can say is: wow. just wow. I just received the present of a lifetime. Thank you, thank you!
— Jennifer, bride
Lauren has the most amazing talents for photography. She has an eye for artistry, and will capture your moments in a unique, breathtaking way. We were impressed with her photos from our entire day, and were able to find so many special ones to highlight our day and frame around our house. Our families and friends have not stopped raving about her talent, and we are so thankful that she was there to spend the day with us and help us to remember every special detail!
I wanted to tell you, first of all, how very much we enjoyed having you with us yesterday to document in photos Julia and Michael's wedding. You were an absolute delight to work with, and the few photos that I saw (the pre-wedding shots as Julia was getting read) were breathtakingly beautiful. ... Thank you for spending so much time with our families and for providing us with such a lovely remembrance."
— Janet, mother of the bride
